MRSC Junior Week was back again with a vengeance!

What a week! 38 Mengeham Juniors and Juniors from four other harbour clubs. Great sailing winds, fleets of sailors wanting to sail hard and improve their sailing skills and onshore and water safety teams raring to go!
For the first time in many years Red and Blue Fleets got the full ten race series in, and Green Fleet raced well too, having gained in confidence to complete a good windward leg!
Red Fleet had some very capable sailors in both Fevas and Lasers, with particularly second and third places hotly contested. A number of sailors sailed their class or in Red Fleet for the first time and the Fleet had first ever racing on West Mud on Windy Tuesday. All made outstanding progress in strong and light winds
Blue and Green Fleets consisted of primarily MRSC Juniors and with limited prior racing experience had highly competitive racing, led ably by their Instructors and PROs. Blue Fleets sailed exceptionally well on Windy Tuesday. Green Fleet sailors enjoyed use of 6 brand new Oppies which will be well used by our young sailors in coming years.
Gold Fleet had fun on the water learning to sail to a mark, tacking up the creek to the pond and sailing in a range of boats to East Head.
The traditional Water Sports day took place on Windy Tuesday for Green and Gold Fleets, with Instructors and parents supporting some energetic jumping, racing and swimming.
The Tuesday evening fish and chip van had queues long before opening time and families had a great evening being entertained by Ellie Mugridge who also won the Spirit of Mengeham prize this year.
Thursday evening's BBQ and Disco was described as the best ever, with youngsters and oldsters filling the dance floor, a special mention goes to the Mowbray siblings who re-enacted their favourite childhood dance moves!
The week ended with prizegiving and crew supper; Junior week is about our young sailors, but is is also club members old and new coming together to give something back to the club, to forge friendships, celebrate what makes Mengeham special and most of all to have fun together. Thank you to you all for creating something very special!
