Prize Giving 2025

Our first prize giving for four years gave us both new and old faces, and in our 75th Anniversary season it was good to recognise the generosity of our founder Alec Brennan
Trophies for the Anniversary day races, The Founders Cup (originally a fishing trophy) for the fast, and the 21st Trophy (to celebrate the Club's 21st) for the slow, h,caps, were both presented by Alec Brenan, our founder; the fast was won by Simon and Adam Notley, the slow by Jeremy Rapley in his Solo.
The season started with the traditional Easter Egg race for the Cleeve Cup (another fishing trophy) and started a rivalry which lasted to the end of the season. Our Sailing Sec, the Ancient Mariner Chris Tyler, was 1st with new boy Robert Bridges 3rd. The Autumn series for the Brenan Shield was another 1st for Chris, with Robert now 2nd, but honours were even for the John Woods Trophy awarded to the helm sailing the most races.
Simon Hope had won the Rythe Trophy, and Mike Herington the Canada Cup, for the fast and slow Spring H'cap series, and Jeremy Rapley the Plunkett Cup for the summer trophy race. Rob Bullion caught everybody to win the MJF pursuit race.
In our open events, Jeremy added to his haul by winning the Rowans Trophy, and Mark Macdonald won the VWD Regatta Trophy, both for the first MRSC helm in the largest fleet. The Regatta Trophy was presented by Hon Sec VW Doughterty and is an amazing record of members racing since 1950, with very few years missed.
Finally, Chris awarded the Sailing Sec's trophy it was awarded for the first time to a Family for their contribution to club sailing - the Bridges Family, with Charles, Robert and Lilly all racing, Avon and Barbara learning to sail and practising capsize drill in their restored Wayfarer, as well as taking out their Jaffa to help with safety, and Avon acting as bosun to the Laser fleet and junior boats.
