Team Racing - Sunday 8th July  2007

The annual Team Racing event took place at the club on Sunday 8th July where the competition was strong. James Notley and Adam Osborne were anxious to maintain the trophy with the Parke family putting up a strong fight by entering two teams of mother & son and father & son. The racing consisted of a competition between pairs of Optimists over a short course off the club which provided a good spectator event. There were six teams who were split into 2 groups of three teams enabling teams in each group to race against each other.

The teams in second place from each group then raced against each other to establish third and fourth positions in the event. This was followed by the final race with the winners from each group; “Seawave” (James Notley & Adam Osborne) against team “Parke 1” (Conway Parke & Colin Parke). This 2 lap final, after a very close race, was won by defenders “Seawave”. Colin Parke, who is 6’ 6” and normally sails a Fireball, finished off the entertainment by demonstrating how easy an Optimist can be righted after an involuntary capsize!!!
