MENGEHAM Rythe
Sailing Club hosted the eighth annual Rowans Pursuit Race on
Sunday 8th June with a record number of dinghies
taking part. The 54 entrants, including 9 boats from Hayling
Island Sailing Club, made donations to enter the race, and with
the proceeds from the tombola, a raffle, the lunch and afternoon
tea, £1,100 was raised for the local hospice. |

A club start line in restricted
waters provided exciting entertainment for spectators who
watched the boats, including an RS Elite, a Skiff and a Foil
Moth, begin the race according to their handicap, with the
slowest class, a Scow, setting off at 2pm. The sailors enjoyed a
specially laid course in Chichester Harbour in warm sunny
weather and a gentle breeze. |

The Travellers’
Trophy was won by Neil Upton-Brown from HISC sailing a Skiff.
Neil Robinson won the MRSC Fast Handicap Trophy in a Finn and
Paddy Lamperd won the MRSC Slow Handicap Trophy in a Solo. [Full

MRSC was particularly grateful to
all the sailors and club members who supported this event and
the local businesses who donated items for the raffle. |
