| TOPPER OPEN - Saturday 4 June 2011 |
|
Mengeham Rythe Sailing Club, Hayling Island, hosted a Topper Open meeting on Saturday 4 June with 34 entries. With a frisky, 14 to 22 knot north easterly to northerly wind, which shifted forwards and backwards to north easterly throughout the day, a course was laid on Pilsey Sands in Chichester Harbour. At the start of the first race, with a rising tide, most of the fleet were over the line. and a general recall brought them back. After a second false start and an increase on the port bias, they eventually got away and the race won by Chris Cowan from Portchester YC with Giles Kuzyk from Parkstone YC second. The course was adjusted for the second race, as there was a wind shift, which kept them back off the line and they all got away first time. This race was won by Giles Kuzyk with Niall Houston from Mengeham Rythe SC second. For race three, although the tide had turned there was plenty of time to give those who had not done much sea sailing the chance to sail with the water flowing the other way but it did confuse some. As the wind was maintaining its strength the course was increased to three rounds. This race was won by Josh Stone from Burghfield SC and Giles Kuzyk was second. |
