Early Curly Banger Race
Twenty boats crossed the start line at 8am for annual the Early Curly Banger Race which was followed by a "Full English Breakfast" in the club house  [results] & [more pictures]

Finn Southern Championship & Osprey Southern Championship
Mengeham Rythe Sailing Club hosted a combined event of the Finn Southern Championship and the Osprey Southern Championship over the midsummer weekend. [more]

Rowans Pursuit Race
The Club hosted the eighth annual Rowans Pursuit Race on Sunday 8th June with a record number of dinghies taking part. The 54 entrants, including 9 boats from Hayling Island Sailing Club, made donations to enter the race, and with the proceeds from the tombola, a raffle, the lunch and afternoon tea, £1,100 was raised for the local hospice.

Finn Masters' World Championships
Seven of the MRSC Finn Fleet attended the Masters' World Championship in Medemblick, Holland on 9th to 16th May 2008.

Fishing Trip - 10th May 2008
When the club was first established in 1950 it was called The  Mengeham Rythe Fishing And Sailing Club. A fishing section has recently been set up again. On their first major trip 12 members chartered a fishing boat. On a flat cam and sunny day they all enjoyed a successful trip catching a variety of fish, some of which, due to their rarity were photographed and put back safely into the sea.

Inside/Outside Race
MRSC members were spotted sailing past the lifeboat station on Sunday 13th April going out of Chichester Harbour during the "Inside/outside Race"

Racing abandoned 
Hayling Islanders woke up to a rare sight on the morning of Sunday 6th April which caused the Spring Points Races to be abandoned.

Cheese & Wine Party
The Hayling Island RNLI Fundraising Committee organised a Cheese & Wine Evening at MRSC on Saturday 5th April raising £556.07 for the Lifeboat Station. During the evening, Siri Young, Chair of the Committee, as a token of thanks to the club for its support for the RNLI, presented Ken Osborne, Commodore, with a framed set of 1975 First Day Cover stamps on a MRSC 25th anniversary envelope.

Cruiser Lift-in
The majority of the cruiser fleet went back into the water on Saturday 5th April water after a frantic few days of anti-fouling and polishing.

Wrinklies' Lunch
The "Wrinklies" Monday morning work party held their annual lunch on Monday 31st March. During the luch the Commodore, Ken Osborne thanked the "Wrinklies" for all their hard work.

St Patrick's Night
The social event for March was a St Patrick's Day event held on 15th March with over 80 members enjoying a themed party ....Green!!   [more details and pictures]

MRSC Juniors visit the Station
Junior members and their parents visited Hayling Island Llifeboat Station on Sunday 2nd March as part of the RNLI's sea safety awareness programme. The group of 60 met the crew and watched the lifeboats being launched on a training exercise and then again when the Atlantic 75 was launched to assist a windsurfer in difficulty. After the visit the juniors and their parents returned to the club for a BBQ.


 
Congratulations to Anthony Parke
Anthony has been invited to represent GBR at the Irish Optimist Nationals as part of the junior team. The team are chosen mainly from the national rankings from 2007 which places Anthony in the top 15 juniors in the country. IOCA send a team to Ireland as good preparation for future international events.


 
Winkle of the Harbour
MRSC hosted the annual "Winkle of the Harbour" on Boxing Day.
