Prize Giving
Mengeham Rythe Sailing Club held its own Sports Personalities of the Year award ceremony on Saturday 24th November which was followed by an excellent supper.

AGM - Sunday 4th  November 2007
The AGM attracted around 120 members who welcomed the new General Committee and thanked Ian Grant who was standing down as Commodore.

Saturday Work Party - 3rd November 2007
On a glorious sunny day a high turnout of volunteers helped to move cement for the new piles and to repair the sea wall ready for the new ramp. Good fun was had by all!

Rowans Pursuit Race
MENGEHAM Rythe Sailing Club had a record number of entries for the annual Rowans Pursuit Race held on 2nd September which raised nearly £700 for the local hospice.

Federation Week 13th - 17th August 2007
Congratulations to the Mengeham sailors who came first in the Inter Club Team Trophy. The Trophy was last won by MRSC in 1991. Vice-Commodore, Ken Osborne, collected the prize on behalf of the club. The MRSC Race Team were Roger Houston (1st in Laser Radials), John Tremlett, (1st in Finns), Anthony Parke (1st in Optimists), David Jones & Conway Parke (1st in Slow Handicap Fleet in a Mirror) and Gil Carter (2nd in Slow Handicap Fleet in a Lymington River Scow). Cruiser Dinghy Rally - 11th August 2007
A group of cruiser and dinghy members ventured overseas to Bembridge for a BBQ on the beach..

Open Regatta
The Club ran another successful open regatta in Chichester Harbour on Sunday 15th July 2007 despite a weather forecast of thundery showers.

Wooton Cruiser Rally - 5th/6th May 2007
In early May eleven boats took part in a cruise to Wooton  where MRSC members enjoyed the hospitality of the Royal Victoria Yacht Club. On the outward trip the weather was SW 1-3 with lovely sunshine and on the return trip, on the Sunday, the wind was SW 4-5 with a moderate sea.

Laser Open
Congratulations to Sam Tozer from Papercourt Sailing Club who won the Laser Radial Open Meeting  at the Club held on 2/3rd June 2007.

New Members' Evening
New Members were invited to a reception on Saturday 19th May to meet Officers of the Club where the Commodore, Ian Grant, gave a brief history of MRSC. At the end of the reception Fiona & Alan Bartlett organised a fashion show of the Club's clothing, modelled by "volunteer" members!

RYA Training session, 5th May 2007
The Club received another “pat-on-the-back” from the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) following its annual inspection as an RYA Training Centre. [more details & pictures]

Happy Birthday "Florence"
"Florence" celebrated her 70th birthday on Monday 30th April. Members of the Monday morning work party ("Wrinklies") joined Eddie Ault, her current owner, in the celebrations.

Cheese & Wine Evening - Saturday 21st April.

The Hayling Island RNLI fundraising Branch organised a very successful cheese and wine evening held at the club.  As well as wine and a buffet, members and guests were treated to some lively shanty singing by the Victory Morris shanty singers from Portsmouth. During the evening a presentation was made to lifeboat crew who had been honoured by the RNLI.  The profit from the evening, which included a prize raffle, was £748.98 which will be used to support the work of Hayling Island Lifeboat Station.  The RNLI would to thank MRSC for their support and for allowing the Fundraising Branch to use the club.

Cruiser Lift-in
The cruiser fleet organised the annual lift-in on Saturday 21st April. Perfect weather conditions, team work and strict safety operations made it a successful day with 48 sailing and motor boats being lifted in on the mid afternoon tide.

Another "Comet" flies into Mengeham
Another Comet sailing dinghy was launched at the club on Monday 19th February by Alan Bartlett. MRSC now has a fleet of 4 Comets  which are easily recognised by the orange logo on the sail. Comet dinghies are advertised as being suitable for "those who like thrills without spills". [picture gallery]
     


RYA Power Boat Level 2 Course
Another 6 people successfully completed an  RYA Power Boat 2 Course over the weekend 3/4 February with near perfect weather and sea conditions. Another course was also held on 17/18 February.

RYA Power Boat Level 2 Course

Six people took part in the  the RYA Power Boat level 2 Course run by the club on Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st January.  The first day was spent learning all the slow manoeuvres in the creek and and the theory parts of the course and on the following day they went into the bay to carry out the fast turns, man overboard and rough weather training.  The wind was force 7 with a big swell and a "lumpy" sea. This was the first of a number of RYA training courses that will be held at the club during the next few months
