| Being tidal, racing starts at variable
times - generally between 10am and 15.00 pm on Sundays (Saturdays
being reserved for training and junior racing). Most races are
committee boat starts and finishes in the harbour, unless starts are
early (club line start) or racing takes place in Hayling Bay. Although
being tidal makes for start time constraints, it does mean that we
usually have the full expanse of the harbour available to us, allowing
us to race over old style Olympic courses (triangles and sausages)
with either two short races or one longer race. Otherwise racing is
either round the harbour buoys or in Hayling Bay (leaving on the ebb
and returning on the flood) –with bar hours set appropriately!
Currently starts are divided between fast and slow handicap, though
within these there is a substantial Finn fleet of over 20 boats (the
largest in the country), a growing Contender fleet and a popular Solo
fleet. We have yet to establish two person fleets, Laser 2000 or
Wayfarer being contenders for a slow fleet and RS 200 or 400 for the
fast fleet – but any active and committed fleet would be welcome.
