Cruiser/Dinghy Rally 11th August 2007

On the 11th August, over half a dozen cruisers left the MRSC club on the morning ebb tide and sailed/ motored over to Priory Bay on the Isle of Wight in light winds, a flat sea and in sunshine.  On board were a dozen or more club members who are usually seen sailing dinghies in the harbour.  We were accompanied by Chris Dobner in Patsy who provided sterling service when we reached the 'other side' by ferrying everyone ashore from the anchored cruisers .

Many braved the cool water and went for a swim, followed by a communal BBQ.  With no time for a snooze, we were into an energetic game of rounders, Mengeham style.   This involved a certain amount of shoulder charging, obstruction and body-checking but there were no significant injuries!

With the evening sun getting lower, as soon as there was enough water, the ferry back to the cruisers began.  It was almost dark when the last returned and some had problems mooring with a strong tide and little light.

Many thanks to the cruiser fraternity for their great hospitality and to Chris Dobner for his taxi service, all combining to make it a most enjoyable day.

Ken Osborne, Vice-Commodore
