EXHIBITION & SALE |

THE CLUB
displayed the hidden artistic and creative talents of its
members during the Arts & Crafts Exhibition and Sale held on
Saturday 18th November in aid of the Rowans Hospice |
|
Over
80 paintings in watercolour, acrylic and oil, and some
stunning photographs, were displayed, all of which had been
produced by club members. Other displays showed a very
diverse range of crafts including jewellery making,
embroidery, quilting, decoupage, greetings cards, pottery
and even |

a magnificent display of Japanese dolls, where visitors were
given the opportunity to make a kimono using special origami
paper. One member displayed 40 antique sewing machines, which
was just a very small part of her main collection – not quite
suitable for sail repairs, but all were still in full working
order. |
|
However,
just to remind visitors that MRSC is a sailing club,
there was an interesting display of knots and rope
fenders, produced by Eddie Ault, who also set up a
timed challenge for tying 6 nautical knots. This
encouraged a keen competitive spirit which is usually
only found on the water. |
|
The other skill which was clearly demonstrated during
the afternoon is how good the sailing club members,
including the junior sailors, are at making cakes,
which are usually enjoyed at the sailing regatta teas.
The cake stall and afternoon tea alone raised over
£200. |
|
Throughout the event, which was open to the general
public, a total of £752 was raised for the Rowans
Hospice. This was just of one of several charity
events that MRSC organises during the year as part of
its commitment to supporting local charities. |
