Mengeham Rythe
Sailing Club hosted a combined event of the Finn Southern
Championship and the Osprey Southern Championship over the
midsummer weekend. On Saturday 21st June 16 Finns
and 15 Ospreys enjoyed good sailing conditions in Hayling Bay
and with a southerly force 3 to 4 wind the Finn Fleet initially
sailed a windward leeward course with the Ospreys sailing a
triangular course. In the third race of the day with a slight
increase in wind strength requiring a small course adjustment,
all 31 boats were able to sail the same triangular course.

| On the Sunday with
the wind strength too strong for sailing in Hayling Bay a
triangular course was set in the more sheltered waters of
Chichester Harbour where, with a wind speed of 20 to 25 knots,
there was still some exciting sailing. |

| Throughout the
weekend all the competitors demonstrated a very high level of
sportsmanship with no general recalls and no protests. In the
Finn Fleet, John Tremlett and Henry Bagnall tied for first
place, broken on the last race. |
